June Favorites!

Hi lovelies! Here and there I briefly mentioned that I do community theater and recently was in a show. Most of my favorites for the month have been the items I used for the show. My makeup had to withstand heat, stage lights, sweat, costume changes and most importantly last through all of it! I should point out one little thing, I played both a guy and a girl throughout the entire show.

June Faves

I’m going to to in the order in which I used each product.

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer

Mary Kay Medium Coverage Foundation in Beige 400- when on stage you don’t want to go with your normal foundation shade. Stage lighting is extremely bright and more often than not make you look ghostly white.

Rimmel Natural Bronzer in 021 Sun Light- I used this to blend out the foundation around the perimeter of my face and down my neck.

Nars Bronzer in Laguna- I used this on my cheeks and where the sun would hit my face.

NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray

Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Liner in Perversion- I used this only for tight lining.

L’Oreal Lash Out Butterfly Mascara in Black- This ran out in the middle of putting my make up on, on opening night!

Ulta Amped Lashes in Jet Black- This was a lifesaver! I was able to easily build this up to match my other eye that was already done with the L’Oreal mascara.

Revlon Color Stay Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey

For the Girl portion of the show:

Nars blush in Orgasm

To take the layers of make up off I used the Alba Botanica Hawaiian 3-in-1 clean towelettes. It is a 3-in-1 wipe that can be used to remove makeup, cleanser, and a toner all in 1.

I hope that you enjoyed my June favorites. What have been some of your favorites this past month?

Summer Nails

Hi Gals! Today I’m sharing 5 of my favorite nail polish colors for the summer!

1. Essie- Turquoise and Caicos

2. Butter London- Cotton Buds

3. CoverGirl Glosstini- #ElectroGlow

4. Butter London- Kerfuffle

5. Essie- Cute as a Button

Fave Summer Polishes

I chose these colors because I love the shades. They are all different in their own way. Summer time is every girls chance to experiment with bright colors. The easiest way to do that is through nail polish. For myself, I can’t rock a bright orange lipstick. I would love to but with my complexion I would look like a clown. I instead rock a traffic cone orange shade on my nails. As for white polishes, a good one is few and far between. Different formulas I’ve had in the past come off too much like white out. The Butter London formula is fantastic, and the white blends well with my skin tone.  As far as the pale, mint green and shades of pink, you can never go wrong with these. As the mermaid and beachy trends seem to be taking off, you don’t have to go very far to find a shade that works for you. Essie’s Cute as a Button is on my nails probably about 80% of the summer. It’s my go to color when I can’t decide what color to paint my nails next.

I hope you enjoyed this post. Share your favorite polish shades in the comments. I would love to know what your favorites are! Have a fantastic weekend! See you next week!

First Impression and Review: Ulta Amped Lashes

Today I’m sharing my thoughts on Ulta’s Amped Lashes mascara. It claims to add volume and define your lashes. I have it in Jet Black and in the regular formula. I got this from a kit that you get when you spend so much on an Ulta brand purchase. If bought on its own, it costs $10, is slightly more than drugstore price but definitely comparable. I have to be honest when I went to use this, I was really nervous. I was in the middle of a show and had to put mascara on and my other mascara ran out! I was pleasantly surprised.

Ulta Mascara

Formula and Wand: The formula is a cream formula. It’s a little on the thick side and thought I was going to end up with clumpy lashes. When I pulled the wand out, a ton of product came out. I just wiped the excess on the inside edge of the tube. The wand is a rubber, tapered wand. I really like the tapered end because I can really get to the tiny lashes on the inner and outer corners. I had used a different mascara that had a rubber wand and it was really flimsy. This wand is much more sturdy and doesn’t bend in any direction.

Claims: The mascara tube says volume and defining mascara. I somewhat agree with these claims. It didn’t volumize my lashes very much. While many women want to have huge volumized lashes, I think that during the day the a more natural appearance is appropriate. If having full on large lashes and adding falsies is your thing, then do it!! I love the look but it is not for me for a casual day to day schedule.

Ulta Mascara Before after

With the first swipe, I knew I had found my every day mascara. It gave just a nice natural bump up length wise without the over the top length. I love the wispy look it gave my lashes. I have to say that it did not flake throughout my performances. I put it to the real test when I headed to the Chicago Blackhawks parade and rally. It was 80 plus degrees outside and the humidity was intense. I put it on at 8 am and took it off at 8 am. Yes with the intense heat and humidity, and 12 hours later the mascara was still there and looked almost as good as it did in the morning. There was a little bit of flaking but that could also have been because of rubbing my eye a little bit.

I’m giving the Ulta Amped Lashes Volumizing and Defining Mascara an 8/10.

MOD: Blackhawks Parade and Rally

Hi gals! Today I thought I would share a little bit of my experience and the makeup I wore to the parade and rally a couple of days ago. Since I’ve been trying out a new foundation and mascara, I figured this would give me a really good idea how they will perform in high heat and humidity.

Long story short of me getting there…I was meeting up with a friend down there and after we both had some train troubles, I got there in plenty of time and waited for my friend. She ended up having a worse time getting there than I did. With that aside I managed to get down to the Art Institute and since it wasn’t too crowded there I stayed there. The crowd was intense but it wasn’t so out of control that police would have to intervene. Everyone was excited and pumped at the accomplishment of the Hawks. Now on to the products I used on my face for the day.

Not Pictured: Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer

Face: Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer, Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation in Light Ivory 091, Rimmel Match Perfection 2-in-1 Concealer & Highlighter in Fair/Light 230, NARS blush in Orgasm

Eyes: All over the lid Bootycall and in the crease Tease from UD Naked2 Palette, Tightline Smashbox Limitless Eyeliner in Onyx, Ulta Amped Lashes Volume & Defining Mascara(First Impression & Review coming soon!)

Lips: Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in White Russian

I put my makeup on at about 8:15am. My goal was to check in during the parade, during the rally, during lunch/dinner and when I got home. I took a photo first thing after I put on my makeup but the photo came out horrible. After the train craziness in the morning the rest of the day didn’t go as planned either.

This photo was taken at about 10:45am. I noticed some settling in my pores. The foundation was completely off of my forehead thanks to the heat and wearing a hat. After a couple of hours and considering the heat and humidity it didn’t look too bad.

After all of the celebrating, heat, humidity, and food.

At the end of the day: The aftermath when I came home and just wanted to go to sleep, but it was only 6:30pm. =( I took a quick look to see what my face looked like. The foundation completely settled into my pores, sweated off, or was kind of flaking off of my skin(it was weird).

As far as the rest of my makeup, it pretty much lasted all day, including the non-waterproof mascara. Of course the lip gloss wore off by the time I hit the museum. I grabbed a coffee at the train station, boy did I need it! My eyeshadow kind of disappeared a bit. I had a contact issue at some point and I was rubbing my eye. O well. Considering it was about 85 degrees out and the humidity was absolutely insane. I was happy I didn’t come home looking like a clown or like I got punched in the face.

If you want a more in depth review on the foundation, let me know. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Congratulations Chicago Blackhawks!

The Great Makeup Clear Out

First, this post was supposed to go live yesterday. However, I was having trouble inserting the pictures and it was game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. All I can say on that is Go Hawks! I love being from Chicago and am so proud of the city and athletic teams that represent our great city. With that being said onto cleaning out my make up drawer.

I have finally taken on the task of cleaning out my makeup collection. Over the course of the last couple of months I have picked up a few more items and with the goal of keeping my collection in one drawer. It sounds like the impossible but I am determined to keep it contained.

My main goal was to get rid of anything that is old and expired or give away anything that hasn’t been/slightly used to friends. I’m going to be telling you about my process. If you want more of a breakdown of when you should or how you know if your makeup products are expired, let me know. I’ll gladly share all the information for you.

A few things I kept in mind when I cleared out my drawer:

1. How old is it?

2. Does it smell funny? (has the scent changed from the original)

3. Do I use it still? I’m a creature of habit and if I love something and I use it all the time then I will use it otherwise it just sits there.

4. Not necessarily a question that I asked myself but something that I keep in mind day to day. Is it still good, but almost empty? I’m trying to do a no buy month and while I haven’t been really successful at it, I have only purchased a few things that I need any ways and want to try new products out at the same time.

After two hours my collection is cleaned out and full of things I know I will use! I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders and I don’t feel guilty for not using certain makeup items. At this point I still can’t get my pictures to upload into the post. Go to my twitter to see the before and after photos. Have a great week and Go Hawks!!
